We’re the originator of engineered soil in baseball and continually push the industry toward improvements in field solutions. Our innovative processes and products have set the standard for how infields should perform and changed the expectation for how much rain a field should take before play is suspended.
Before DuraEdge, infield materials were harvested and came from local quarries meaning they lacked specifications. But, DuraEdge founder Grant McKnight believed soil science could change baseball for the better. When his local college team struggled with poor field quality, he set out to improve the field’s safety and playability. Using his background of developing custom soils for golf courses that require strict specifications, he created a scientific method to analyze how a field’s soil properties impacted playability. His initial blend was a hit with the local team and he set out to continue to produce replicable mixes utilizing strict specifications which then became Grant’s Engineered Soil Technology (E.S.T.). DuraEdge found its way to Major League Baseball and set the standard for safe and playability infields.
While we are proud to supply more than half of Major League Baseball, we understand that there are number of fields across the country faced with the same problems and issues. As a result, we developed new infield mixes for Colleges, High Schools, Little Leagues and Recreation programs so that they can play more games, play safer games and have less maintenance.

The secret to better baseball happens at our DuraLab. Inside, our team is constantly advancing the processes that make DuraEdge so special. We call it Engineered Soil Technology (E.S.T.) It’s like giving soil a DNA test. We look at what it’s made of, where it came from and why it behaves the way it does. More importantly, how we can make it behave the way you want.
At our plants, we combine our DuraLab technology with a unique clay that we only get from our own mine. It’s the reason no one replicates what DuraEdge can do and why most of Major League Baseball has our dirt underneath their cleats.
